The largest part of the Archives’ collection relates to the history of the Second Polish Republic’s (1918-39) Eastern Provinces, the mechanism of Soviet repressions (1918-56), the fate of Polish citizens in the Soviet Union and under Soviet occupation, the forced displacements after the Second World War and the anti-Communist armed resistance movement in Poland. Of special significance are source materials, containing biographical information about Polish citizens persecuted by the Soviet Union between 1939 and 1956 (executed, deported, interneed, prisoners-of-war, forced workers, prisoners of Soviet camps, incorporated into the Red Army). An unique photographic collection portrays: the Second Polish Republic and its Eastern Provinces, the history of the Gulag, everyday life of the deported to the USSR, first years in afterwar Poland.
